SUPPLEMENT FOR HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR


Applicable to a CE test or regular inspection of a hydraulic excavator used for excavation, with which loads can also be hoisted.

1. Documents
During the commissioning and regular inspection, the following must be present with the excavator:

  • the crane book (e.g. FM 001822);
  • CE declaration of conformity;
  • the certificates of hooks and/or chains;
  • the load chart with all possible working positions;
  • an overall drawing;
  • the operation, maintenance and assembly instructions;
  • the electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams;
  • the most recent inspection report.

2. CE test
For a CE test, the following must additionally be present:

  • a brochure with the technical specifications of the machine;
  • a list of any modifications to the machine to make it suitable for hoisting work, such as: 
    • modified diagram of the hydraulic system; 
    • modified diagram of the electrical circuit system; 
    • declaration of conformity for interchangeable equipment for the hoisting work.

3. Test load
The client provides the test load and the tools for the test and places them close to the excavator. It is best to avoid losing a lot of time in putting test loads together! Test loads made up of multiple items must be sufficiently stable as a whole. It must be possible to hang the test load freely on the designated hoisting point of the boom. A filled excavator bucket is not suitable as a test load.

3.1 CE test
A test performed before first operation after having been manufactured or significantly repaired or modified.
It must be possible to compose at least 2 test loads:
a. 1.25 times the hoisting load as stated on the load chart for the maximum radius;
b. 0.8 times the hoisting load as stated on the load chart for the minimum radius.

As an additional task, the hose rupture valves on the hydraulic cylinders can be tested for proper functioning.

To assess the proper functioning of the hose/pipe rupture valves, a hose/pipe rupture simulation must be performed (tee with valve in the pipe).
For some systems, pressure measurement can determine the proper functioning, and a pressure tap in the pipe following the pipe rupture valves is sufficient.
For systems in which the speed control takes place exclusively on the cylinder, no pipe rupture simulation or pressure measurement is necessary. For these systems, the speed of the movement is not affected by hose/pipe rupture.

3.2 Regular inspection
A regular inspection which is performed to ensure the good condition in connection with safety. It must be possible to put together a test load which is at least 125% of the hoisting load at the largest radius.

4. Responsibility during tests with load
The client must ensure that a specialist is present at the tests, who is responsible for the performance of the tests.
